To give candidates the confidence and ability to deal with a wider range of first aid situations in higher risk workplace environments, workplaces with higher numbers of employees, or where members of the public may be present. The course is in two parts, the first of which is the Emergency First Aid at Work course. There are no pre-requisites for attending this course. The course covers:
Unit 1: Emergency First Aid
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assess an incident
- Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- Manage a casualty with external bleeding
- Manage a casualty who is in shock
- Manage a casualty with a minor injury
Unit 2:
- Conduct a secondary survey
- Recognise and administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints such as fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries such as concussion, skull fracture, compression, spinal injury
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
- Recognise and administer First Aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Recognise and provide First Aid to a casualty with suspected major illness such as heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes.
It is possible to carry out 6 hours online learning followed by 2 days face to face.

This course is available to those who have an in date (or expired within the last 28 days) First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification issued by an HSE approved Ofqual regulated training provider, and is simply a shortened version of the First Aid at Work course detailed above.
It is possible to carry out 6 hours online learning followed by 1 day face to face.
